Haleakala Overlook

Near the summit of Haleakala, there are different views into the crater, or "caldera" as the rangers would like us to call it. The photo above shows the covered viewing platform at the Leleiwi Overlook.

10,023 foot-high Haleakala is the larger of the two volcanos that make up the island of Maui. The other one is Halemahina. Haleakala means house of the sun, Halemahina means house of the moon.
